What Does an Electrician Do
Electrical engineers design and upgrade electrical systems and equipment. This includes everything from household appliances to satellite communication systems. Qualifications

The ability to provide field solutions to construction problems and ensure contractor compliance with plans and specifications is desired. Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and overtime as needed. Must be able to pass the pre-employment background check and drug screen. Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Must be willing to travel for training as necessary.
Education
In addition to pursuing a degree in electrical installation, an Electrician may also want to consider completing industry certifications. Skills
Design, draw, and prepare wiring and layout diagrams. Create visual guidelines to be used by workers who erect, install, and repair electrical equipment and wiring in communication centers, power plants, electrical distribution systems, and buildings. Use Computer Aided Design and Drafting systems to prepare engineering drawings that detail plans and specifications.
Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and circuitry in industrial, commercial, and laboratory facilities under the direction of engineering staff. Solder, final bench assemble and continuity check aircraft assemblies and other electrical parts and components. Assemble and wire completely, aircraft electrical and radio units and accessories such as main junction and terminal boxes, switch panels, radio and radar units, and instrument panels.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well with others are essential for an electrician. Adaptability and flexibility to changing work demands are also important in this role. The ability to operate hand tools and measuring instruments is necessary for this position. A good understanding of safety requirements and adherence to applicable laws is required.
