A bold, mixed-development project, one-north was designed by the government to reposition Singapore as a global talent hub. It was also meant to test the worklive-play-learn concept, clustering industries in a way that encouraged interaction and the exchange of ideas. The 200ha is home to a number of well-known and award-winning companies. They include P&G, A*STAR, The Walt Disney Company (Southeast Asia), Industrial Light & Magic and Fujitsu Asia.

The masterplan contrasts low-rise heritage bungalows with new medium and high-rise developments, offices, R&D clusters as well as generous public spaces for leisure activities. It is also an experimental application of the concept of artificial landscape formation to an entire urban quarter.
Unlike most other areas in Singapore where the skyline is created by towers of steel and glass, one-north is actually inspired by the ebb and flow of the natural landscape with its hills and valleys. Rochester Park – A cluster of heritage black-and-white colonial bungalows that have been refurbished to house restaurants, bars and spas is extremely popular with the expatriate and yuppie set. A further 20 bungalows in the park are slated for development into serviced villas or F & B outlets.
Wessex Estate – Another cluster of bungalows and walk-ups which used to be military barracks has been converted into live-work lofts. Several buildings here are named after battles the English military fought and won.
There’s even a green strip running through the park. This is an integral part of JTC’s one-north masterplan, creating a green spine that connects the various polises and industry clusters in one-north.
There are a variety of polises in one-north, such as Biopolis for biomedical sciences and research, Fusionopolis for infocomm technology and media companies, and Mediapolis for media industries. All are connected by a 16-ha park that serves as a common space for the different clusters and the people who live and work in one-north. the hill one north
